United Nations and the Government of Uzbekistan presented key results of cooperation for 2018
Ministry of Economy and Industry of Uzbekistan together with the UN system held an extended meeting of development partners, ministries and state agencies, international organizations, diplomatic missions, academia and civil society.
The meeting participants were briefed on ongoing reforms in the UN system and on the impact of these reforms on Uzbekistan, acquainted with the main results of cooperation between the UN and the Government of Uzbekistan for 2018 and the process of developing a new framework for UN cooperation for the sustainable development of Uzbekistan for 2020-2025.
In 2018, the UN system supported the Government of Uzbekistan in successfully completing the process of nationalization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which resulted in the adoption of 16 national goals and 125 sustainable development goals.
“The UN system in Uzbekistan supported reforms in Uzbekistan as part of the joint work on the implementation of the UN Development Assistance Framework to Uzbekistan for 2016-2020. More than $20 million was spent on projects in the field of inclusive economic development, employment, social protection, quality of health care and education, environmental protection, effective governance and the rule of law,” said Helena Fraser, UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan.
The Ministry of Economy and Industry presented the participants with detailed information on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the draft Concept for the long-term socio-economic development of the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030 and areas of cooperation with the UN. The concept is central to the planning system, in which long-term goals and objectives, development priorities and methods to achieve them are formed to ensure sustainable economic growth in the country.
The national concept of long-term socio-economic development of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2019-2030 is linked to national goals, objectives of sustainable development, which allows to strengthen the practical implementation of the goals and objectives of sustainable development, as well as to conduct effective monitoring.
