“Make a step towards to a healthy life!” campaign starts in Tashkent
The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan jointly with the World Health Organization has launched “Make a step towards to a healthy life!” campaign, which will run from 25 January to 25 February.
The purpose of the campaign is to encourage healthy habits of population, increase awareness on importance of regular physical activity, calling for proper nutrition and quitting smoking.
The campaign plans mass raids to comply with the rules for the sale of alcohol and tobacco products, to prevent incentives for the sale of tobacco products and to create tobacco free zones at work, public transport and public places. In addition, on-site doctors will conduct medical examinations of residents, deliver lectures for young people in educational institutions and communities about the dangers of smoking. Refusal of bad habits, such as smoking, drinking alcohol allows a person to maintain their health, and a healthy lifestyle helps to prolong life and improve health.
The campaign will be held in Mirabad, Yashnabad, Yunusabad and Shayhantahur districts of Tashkent. Health corners to be established at supermarkets, community centers, public organizations and enterprises. Health lessons will be held for youth and votes for tobacco free territory will be carried out in educational institutions.
Because of inactivity and malnutrition, half of the population of Uzbekistan is overweight, 46% of people have blood levels of cholesterol higher than normal, and 31% have high blood pressure.
