UN recognizes Uzbek journalists with special awards
UN and UNESCO Offices in Uzbekistan and other international organizations have presented special awards at the 12th “Oltin Qalam” (Golden Pen) national competition held annually at Tashkent’s Turkiston Palace and dedicated to World Press Freedom Day.
The UNESCO Representative in Uzbekistan, Krista Pikkat, presented the award to Anora Sadykova (“Diydor aziz”) for remarkable media coverage of issues concerning people with disabilities while Head of the UN Information Office, Bobur Komilov, handed the accolade to Dildora Zaynutdinova of Uzbekistan Today News Agency for Best Story on cooperation between the UN and Uzbekistan.
This year the competition drew as many as 9,500 entries from 520 journalists. The awards were presented for merit in television, radio, print media, and online media. Special Awards were created for Best Story on the advocacy of reading in the media; Best Story about Uzbekistan by international journalists; Best Photo Report; and Best Press Service.
